Youth Moose Camp
Backwood Adventures is offering three Youth Moose Camps at our remote base camp in the CB Highlands.This camp is open to any First Nations communities who wish to offer this unique and challenging learning  experience to their youth.Participants will have the chance to interact and work with each other in a unique wilderness setting while learning the importance of our Moose and some long forgotten outdoor skills.

 Campers will stay in one of our large 16 person titanium wood stove heated  Tipi's  and sleeping above  ground in cozy camp cots for the duration of their stay in our remote location in the Cape Breton Highlands.
Our objective is to have a mix of First Nations Youth in a wilderness setting to mix, mingle and learn wilderness  survival skills and have fun  in a safe, respectful manner.
Camp is Co-ed  : Age 12-16 years old.

Participants will be involved in back country hikes and using knives,axes and spark generating tools.Mature, self-respecting individuals need only apply.
Maximum of 12 persons / camp.  Minimum 8

Transportation supplied : Truro ,NS to Highlands Camp and  Return to Truro,NS.


Wilderness  Remote First Aid & CPR certified.

  • Moose habitat & ID - calling techniques & safety issues.
  • Survival skills -  Building a essential survival kit & How to stay alive.
  • Wilderness shelters.
  •  Traditional Smoking and preserving moose meat.
  • Outdoor cooking -  Fire pit,camp stove and reflector oven cooking.
  • Wild foods- Identify,harvest and prepare plant,animal & insect.
  • Camp set up- Tent,trap and Tipi set up.
  • Firecraft- The ability to light fire without matches.
  • Camp thermophyllic composting - Composting toilet and system.   
  •  Medical plants- Identify and uses
  • Camp Craft -  Burnt Bowls & containers.
